Some people rely on illness to help them lose weight. While this is fair enough the first time around, you shouldn’t make a habit of it. Getting used to such could result in some kind of ‘cry-wolf’ syndrome in which you might not recover from the illness soon enough. In the end, you lose. People who were formerly obese need a bit more than just reduced pounds to continue with their lives. Sometimes, a lot of them have suffered rejection and discrimination before they got there, and they need to be helped gradually back to acceptance.

Losing weight is not the end of the journey. You must first find a way to love yourself and let other people love you. Only when you have accomplished this should you relax enough to say that you have overcome being overweight.
